Acceptable Usage

Privatise LTD

These Acceptable Usage Policies (Policies) form an integral part of our Terms of Supply. Breach, or an act or omission that we reasonably anticipate will cause you to breach any of these Policies, constitutes material breach of our Terms of Supply, for which we may:

(a) suspend use of your product and notify you of this in writing as soon as possible afterwards;

or

(b) terminate your Contract immediately on written notice; and we reserve the right to bring an action against you for damages if applicable.

We prohibit the following kinds of activities on all our servers and services:

Pornography of any kind (even legal)
Online gambling sites
Spam email of any kind
Bulk email of any kind (even legal)
Spamming of websites with comments and/or links
"Black Hat" marketing of any kind (see below for some examples)
Anything that promotes or enables any illegal or criminal activity including, but not limited to, violence, illegal drugs, money laundering, terrorism, harassment, racism or discrimination
BitTorrent or similar usage
Sharing or distribution of music, videos, programs or files that you do not own the copyright or rights to

Although some of the above activities are legal, e.g. pornography or bulk email if it is opt-in, we do not want to be responsible for policing the thin line between legal and illegal activity.

Therefore, we do not want it on our network at all. We also strictly prohibit using our network for any form of “Black Hat” search engine optimisation (SEO) or web marketing. Examples include, but are not limited to:

Automated (or multiple manual) “viewing” of clips or downloads on YouTube or download sites to artificially boost the number of “views”/downloads
Automated (or multiple manual) “clicking” on AdSense or similar adverts
Automated (or multiple manual) "liking", “digging” or voting for content on social media to artificially increase their ratings
Automated (or multiple manual) posting of classified ads on classified ad sites like Craigslist in a way likely to lead to our IP addresses being banned
Any other form of automated (or multiple manual) posting, clicking or downloading designed to deliberately artificially inflate or influence the popularity of any type of content or site
Any form of spamming whether by email or automated software or any other means

If you’re not sure whether what you want to do would be considered “Black Hat” and prohibited, the answer is: “If you have to ask, then it’s probably not allowed”. But you can always ask by contacting us.

To help you understand where we’re coming from:

We don’t wish to moralise about the legitimacy of one kind of activity or another. Our concerns are maintaining the integrity and reliability of our servers for all our customers at all times, ensuring no laws are broken, ensuring our IP addresses do not get blocked, blacklisted or banned and maintaining the good name of our company.

So, aside from illegality or pornography, the question to ask regarding our policy is: “If I did this from my own computer, would my IP addresses get blocked, blacklisted or banned?” If the answer is “Yes” then we are likely to consider it in breach of our Policies.
